Ultrasound Guided Regenerative Medicine

Dr. Shawn Tierney DC RMSK under ultrasound guidance is able to diagnose/treat problems of the musculoskeletal system.  With ultrasound you can perform dynamic tests of the affected area (ie - test the stability of the tibia fibular joint in the knee, acromioclavicular joint instability, lumbar facet hypertrophy) that you can't see with Magnetic Resonsonace Imagining (MRI) or X-ray. Ultrasound has 2.5 times the magnification of (MRI) so you can clearly see nerve entrapments, muscle ruptures, tendon tears, and calcific spurs.

Dr. Shawn P Tierney, DC, RMSK

Dr. Shawn P. Tierney is a musculoskeletal sonologist and leader of multiple regenerative medicine clinics in Southern California, specializing in ultrasound-guided procedures such as stem cells, PRP, spinal injections and nerve hydrodissection. Shawn Tierney, DC, RMSK, is an expert educator for physicians and sonographers in musculoskeletal ultrasound and serves as a faculty member of MSKUS. Dr. Tierney has done extensive work in Sports Medicine, Rehabilitation and Nutrition in addition to practicing Chiropractic Medicine for over 15 years.

Dr. Tierney received his degree from the Los Angeles College of Chiropractic Medicine. Prior to studying chiropractic medicine, Dr. Tierney was an environmental organic chemist and a personal trainer since 1986.

Not only does Dr. Tierney have experience as a nationally ranked body builder, he also actively assists in the recovery of many professional athletes. Dr. Tierney has treated members of the U.S. Water Polo Team, the U.S. Olympic Swim Team and professional athletes from the MLB and NFL.

Dr. Sandra L. Goines, DO

Dr. Goines specializes in ultrasound guided regenerative medicine. Board certified as a physician surgeon. extensive training in regenerative medicine. She has been a teacher in regenerative medicine since 2011 with extensive training in anti aging medicine, cosmetic medicine, hormone therapy, as well as nutrition counseling.  She is an expert in osteopathic medicine, osteopathic manipulation.  A former professional dancer enables her to understand biomechanics. She has been a clinical faculty at The College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific since 2005.

Diagnostic Ultrasound exams

Using musculoskeletal ultrasound guidance, Dr. Tierney is able to identify and diagnose musculoskeletal problems that are interfering with your normal routines.

Nerve Hydrodissection

Working with other medical professionals, under musculoskeletal ultrasound guidance Dr. Tierney is able to guide procedures that use water to create space around an entrapped nerve and relieve pain, numbness, tingling caused by a nerve entrapment. Common nerve entrapments are "Sciatica pain, cervical radiculapathy, lumbar radiculapathy, carpal tunnel syndrome"

A regenerative option that uses a scaffolding matrix to help rebuild damaged tissue such as tendons, meniscus, or help repair damage from an arthritic condition.

Stellate Ganglion Block (SGB)

A stellate ganglion block is a procedure where a local anesthetic is placed around a small nerve bundle in the neck called the sympathetic chain. It is a "reboot" of your sympathetic nervous system to treat PTSD, anxiety, and improve your athletic and mental performance.

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)

PRP is derived from your own blood.  A blood draw is taken, put in a centrifuge and the white blood cells are concentrated.  Once concentrated these can be reinjected into the patient in the injured area to accelerate the healing process.

Bone Marrow Stem Cells

Bone marrow is rich in bone marrow stromal or mesenchymal stem cells (MSC’s). When these cells are placed in the proper area, they can differentiate into cells that are part of the musculoskeletal system and accelerate the healing process.
